Tapas with Jose and Silvia

Okay, so although this post is dated January 23rd, the events actually took place November 26th............ (damn, almost 2 months ago).  Anyways, a double date was set up with our friends Jose and Silvia and they graciously showed us around several delicious tapas bars in Madrid.  First we went to a bar (unfortunately, I don't recall its name) in Sol where we sat with a great view of Madrid, and enjoyed drinks and chips.
Jose and Silvia explain to me the different buildings in Sol
Unlike lunch in the States, when you have tapas in Spain you go to several different bars or restaurants and try different kinds of food.  After a drink at restaurant 'A' we went to La Latina (another neighborhood in Madrid) to try another restaurant that was Jose's favorite when he lived in Madrid.  Along the way we took some pictures

One of the oldest buildings in Spain

A building right next to the oldest...which is also quite old?
We ate at a wonderful tapas bar in Lavapiez (no pictures, originally it said La Latin but Silvia corrected me :D) and tried several different types of tapas.  After that we went down near Atocha train station and ate "the best bocadillo con calamares in Madrid."  It was basically a bocadillo (bread and meat), but Jenine says it is the best calamari she has ever had.  Another interesting fact that we knew about Spain but never really saw (because we are hermits) is that in some bars (NOT ALL), you throw your trash on the ground.......... I am surprised at how spotless everything is in the morning (after it's been cleaned).
This isn't the worst that we have seen
After "the greatest calamari in the world" according to Jenine, we went to atocha train station.  This train station is unlike many the other train stations because it is also the central area to go to a lot of different sites in Madrid.  It is beautiful.  It was also one of the sites of a terrorist attack in 2004.
After atocha we walked back to Sol and had some coffee and desserts.  In Sol you will always see the most interesting things on the weekend.

These statues are found all over Madrid during Christmas, according to Jose these are from Barcelona

HOW IS IT DONE!!!!

I gave him a euro because I liked this so much, so he let us take his picture

All in all an amazing time again with Jose and Silvia.
